I have been painting and teaching watercolors for many years and have only recently, less than 2 years, started painting oils which have really improved my handling of paint in general. I like watercolors better now and really like the struggle of learning to paint my favorite things in oil, themes that I found pretty understandable in watercolor. Watercolor is great but it doesn’t conveythe density of atmosphere like oils. So here are two images one in watercolor and one in oils, I am getting closer.

12×16 watercolor 300lb arches this has the same boat different theme. I think I am starting to get the subject matter in oils. It is taking a while but good things come to those who practice or show up.
Both pieces have beautiful atmosphere and perfect movement in the water……nice!
