Workshops: Day 6 Rockport Maine

Workshops

We began the day with a quick exercise of dividing our paper into 4 sections and picking out some pieces of the landscape and, without a whole lot of sketching, we proceeded to try and state the subject matter using expressive brushwork and color.  The goal was to warm up the brush for later paintings and to get a feeling for making things happen with direct and creative brush work.  18 x 24 blocksmall section of evergreens in front of a mass of trees.house with shadow behind several trees.

Demonstration using the brushwork focus of the morning as the primary goal and then moving the viewer around the painting with a variety of white shapes.  Each shape was of a different size and shape and the placement on the paper created a nice feeling of movement from left to right.
