“The Rock” a watercolor and poem

The focus of this painting was to capture the lovely greens in the trees and their reflection in the water.  I invented most everything to make the painting happen, what a joy to paint when the subject matter evokes a feeling of intimacy.

Watercolors

The watercolor painting was finished in about 20 minutes under a old Black Walnut tree looking out across our lake to the rock my son uses as a camp.  It was hidden in the darkness of the trees and ground foliage but there was enough light to make a composition.  The focus of this painting was to capture the lovely greens in the trees and their reflection in the water.  I invented most everything to make the painting happen, what a joy to paint when the subject matter evokes a feeling of intimacy.

The Rock

It rests like a turtle

Head reaching out of its’ shell

Like a big toe

poking out the hole of a boot

Absorbing the warm sliver

Of the late afternoon light

Everyday it comes out of hiding

To lie on the edge of the water

And keep an eye on its’ long

Lazy reflections.

I am now in Rockport Maine getting ready for my 2 week watercolor and oil painting workshop. I will post something everyday to keep you up to date.  It promises to be the best class ever.
