In The Studio: Oil Paintings From Yesterday, Trying At Least One A Day

The Artist In The Studio

I really want to become comfortable with oils so I have set a goal of 1 painting a day plus the other painting I do.  I know that my up coming workshop in Spain will affect this goal but when I get back we will be on to 50 Figures in 50 Days and an oil painting a day.  How much fun that will be.  Not much time for TV but I can live without that.  DSC_0016DSC_0006“Evening Shade”  11x 14 Oil on archival panel.  Not a very original idea and I am sure I was affected by something I had seen recently in a gallery or magazine.   I apologize to that person but if I find where I saw it I will definitely call out the name.  Of course I am doing it from memory so, it really is my composition.

DSC_0016” Glen Cove, Morning Light”  11 x 14 oil on archival panel.  I like the mood of this but I still have a few value issues, it was a 1 hour study and in that I am pretty happy but I need to get a better handle on interpreting the lights and darks.

  1. What is an archival panel.? This is lovely work. Thank you so much for the shares.

    • archival panels are solid core mounting panels with canvas attached to it. It is sealed in a way to keep moisture out which makes it archival. Commercial makers like Fredrix and Criterion make them and so do the smaller places like Sourcetek and Raymar. I hope that helps.
