Workshops: Rockport, Maine Day 7 “Bayside”

Workshops

We painted a beautiful little village just south of Belfast, Maine called Bayside.  All of the houses were quaint little cottages from the early 1900’s and they gave us the opportunity to paint light and shadow contrasted against wonderful green trees.  I know I had fun but I am not sure all of the students were as enamored by the setting as I was.I started the painting by painting the trees, leaving white paper for the sky holes and sun on the buildings.  I did very little over painting I just dropped in the colors of yellow, blue and green making vibrant greens and then worked the shadow of the building as needed at the end.  I edited out most of the spectacular trim work on the buildings, that was not what I was painting.  If you approach a painting like this make sure you handle the drawing and get most of the perspective not perfect but right.
