In The Studio: Just Paint 40 “Bill’s Pasture”

The Artist In The Studio

I found this subject fun to paint although it is not a really complicated piece, but everything had to be painted just right to make it all hold together.  It also forces you to really work on you fine line details, see detail of tree, and the dry brush background trees.  I used all round brushes except for the rigger to paint the foreground weed details and the major trees.  Give these a go they are worth the time getting them to read right.  Strive for texture in the details and your painting will feel alive.

  1. Nita Engle had a great quote about brushwork,”I once read an interview with a very old Chinese painter who said that if he lived another ninety years and practiced brushwork every day, he might then be able to ‘paint a line of rain going down a stone wall.'” This is a great painting for practicing brushwork!
