In the Studio: Just Paint 38 “Low Tide Spruce Head”

I painted an oil today, still learning, I have only really painted about 10 now, and I love the medium but she is not really snuggling up to me yet, but I think the relationship has potential. The goal was getting a feeling of light in one session, a few details, and getting comfortable with the medium, thanks to my friend, oil painting magician,  Sara Poly.  Not really what she told me to do but I am not good at following all exercises.18 x 24 oil on canvas

Steve, I really love this–it is your beauitiful style in another medium–I would know it anywhere. I think it’s grand.ReplyCancel

It is a favorite view for sure and I think familiarity with the subject helps with the interpretive quality of the painting.ReplyCancel

Thanks for sharing your progress as you are learning to paint in oil, Steve. The paintings are wonderful and there’s still so much we can learn from your work!ReplyCancel

Goodness. “I painted an oil today…” 🙂 I love love love the red boats. You told me once that every painting should have a splash of red. I’m not sure about the sky, but I don’t know enough to say any more about it than that. The bottom half of the painting, the water and the trees and the foreground are flawless, the kind of painting I stare at for a long while. Quintessential Steve.ReplyCancel

I think the red definitely seals the deal, I like the light marks on the distant shore also, it does seem to work. I am beginning to feel good about the oils.ReplyCancel
