The Artist In The Studio

The center of interest is the mountains, not the fields or the trees in the front.  So really try to make the contrast on the mountains strong enough and interesting enough to really be the focal point.Paint the sky down to the top edge of the mountains using a mixture of cobalt blue and cerulean blue, this edge should be crisp and varied.  Immediately paint the shadow portion on the mountains leaving white for the snow.  The areas of snow should be of different sizes and shapes.  The color is a grayed blue that leans toward violet but is not purple.  Put in the dark foothills just after the shadows on the mountains dry, this area can still be a little damp.

The yellow green field is a mixture of new gamboge, hansa yellow and olive green.  The paint should be applied with the side of the brush a horizontal marks. With a mixture of all of my yellows and cadmium scarlet and cobalt blue to make some areas of green I painted the foreground.  I tried to get a diagonal feeling to the brush work, in order to, push the viewer into the painting.

Put in some dark accents in the trees and fields with some details for cows and far off trees.
