In The Studio: Painting 37 out of 90, “Mellow Yellow”

In today’s painting I want you to work on really keeping the painting damp and loose.  This can be really hard but if you focus on controlling the amount of water in your brush.  The painting has a lot of yellow and green going on but I want you to use all of your yellows and keep them really pure on the paper.  I used hansa, new gamboge, raw sienna, and aureleon, for the yellows and used cobalt and cerulean blue to mix into the yellows for the greens.  Tone the greens with burnt sienna.  I used a round brush for the painting.

Brush all of the yellows into the sky area working on a cool yellow warm yellow contrast, then lightly brush some cerulean and cobalt blue into the sky.

With the side of a round brush  work in darker pieces of warmer colors mixed with burnt sienna and cobalt blue.  Let a lot of the under layer of yellow show through.  Try not to paint all of the details of a tree just work on painting loose tree shapes.

Brush in some darker accents with the burnt sienna mix with a green color something from new gamboge and cobalt blue.  Put in details of weed in the foreground and then paint in the details of the trees branches.
