This painting is based I a scene from my many excursions around Maine, Oh don’t forget my upcoming workshop in Rockport Maine in September of 2013, every year better than the last.  I am capturing the feeling of early in the morning and my palette is Olive Green, Burnt Sienna, New Gamboge, Ultramarine and Cobalt Blue, and Alizirin Crimson.  I used a number 16 Silver Black Velvet round for almost the entire painting.  Keep up with me and your upcoming year will be your best painting year ever.  15 x 22 arches cold press, 6b pencil.

Gray washes on damp paper, Ultramarine Blue, Burnt Sienna and Alizirin.  Grade the wash dark to light and make sure it is light in the middle of the paper.Less water makes the dark rich and colorful get some nice edges with the side of your brush and make the scrapes with a credit card or super scraper.New Gamboge, Olive Green, Cobalt blue and Alizirin makes a wonderful dark mix for the trees.  Keep changing the colors and really working the brush different angles, and speeds this will give you a nice lively dark shape.Darker accents and reflections added again using the side of the brush for interesting brushwork.  Darker values require less paint and more pigment.  Don’t be afraid of the dark!Details of the finish.  Keep the details to a small number or the painting will be too busy.  Have a nice time working on your paintings today and keep me posted on how it’s going.  I know I am having fun.  I am doing these painting for both you and me.  Keep the brush wet.  We are moving on the week 2.
