Day Three, One more for the road

loose washes of cerulean blue, thalo yellow green, and new gamboge applied with a 1.5 inch skyflow brush

Watercolors

This painting is a very loose abstraction of a rock face, valley floor, and distant water.  I used Thalo yellow-green, cerulean blue, new gamboge, alizarin crimson, and raw sienna.  I applied the paint in rapid sequential washes again not letting the paper dry.  I like to try and get comfortable working on damp paper.  I scraped the highlights on the cliff face just after the paper had lost its sheen, using a little scraping tool called a super scraper.  15 x 22 arches cold pressed sorry for the grey color lights were not perfect. loose washes of cerulean blue, thalo yellow green, and new gamboge applied with a 1.5 inch skyflow brushI over painted darker valued washes over top of the original colors.  The brown color is Alizirin and New Gamboge, not burnt sienna.  I like its richness.I scraped the highlights giving the painting a nice feeling of cliffs rocks and movement in the yellow field.  I think this was a fun exercise and again just what I want to do to get back in the saddle.

  1. Don’t see how anyone could fail to be motivated to paint after seeing what you’ve done in the first 3 days! Got some catching up to do already!

  2. Thank you for being so generous in sharing your knowledge and time. Your blog motivates me to focus on my art, and I need whatever motivation I can find.
