In The Studio: “They Say It Can’t Get Worse”

The Artist In The Studio

This acrylic is 24 x 24 and although it seems like a very scary painting and that can bother some people, my thought is an artist should paint what they feel and not really worry about whether it represents a disturbing image.  The under painting is a very complex weave of browns, greys, blacks and naples yellow with a very gritty and urban feeling.  I wanted the red to flood over top of the under painting creating a new layer of color and intensity.  I think it works just the way I wanted it to.  I think it sort of sums up my reaction to certain recent events.

  1. Most people can’t find words to articulate what they are thinking or feeling, but you have, strongly, in paint. If you’ve painted what you feel, then so be it!

  2. I do’nt know what you were feeling and why, but I know your painting do not leave me cold. It oozes me emotion and hence it attracts me and, above all, it intrigue me. What luck you can express your emotions in the language of painting. To do that I must learn it!
