The Artist In The Studio

These two 36 x 30 acrylics are abstraction of the early formation of Latin America.  They really have no relationship to Costa Rica but I just felt volcanoes and lava expressed in multiple layers of intense reds and transparent venetian red would evoke the feeling of a harsh and volatile emerging land form.  The reds do not really show up well due to my inability to get the colors right but I felt like putting them up on the blog any way.  I love the color chords and the shocking in your face contrast.  I was working on these right after my father passed and they really represent my emotional reaction.  Enjoy them.  I think they are powerful.“Costa Rica 1” 36 x 30 Acrylic on canvas“Costa Rica 2” 36 x 30 Acrylic on canvas

  1. I might have an opportunity to visit Costa Rica this spring so I’m especially excited now that I’ve seen these — I can’t wait!

I understand what you mean about getting reds right on the blog; color calibration is almost a discipline in and of itself in running a website. I’m noticing that the reds on the blog lean a little toward orange on my monitor, but the reds in the email (I’m subscribed to your blog feed so that I never miss a post!) are much more vibrant and the blacks are blacker.

Don’t sweat the color on the blog too much — we all know that you get the color exactly right in your work, the place where it matters most. 🙂

So sorry for the loss of your parents. Keep painting. Keep writing.
