18 x 24 Opaque Watercolor “Two Equals One”
I’ve taken two heavy pieces of Lamp Black and basically lined them up in a fairly static and formally balanced position on the paper. I then tried to create a dynamic statement of movement between the two pieces using lines and a wonderful color Sky Blue. With the addition of the blue more strongly on the left side of the painting and repeating it in the middle bottom, I have given the work a more asymetrical feeling. The gestural lines move in and out of the opaque white paint which has been overlaid on Naples Yellow. Give yourself some challenges when designing your paintings and the results will prove to be rewarding. More to follow

Your demonstrations on your web site and emails along with your comments are very useful, especially your comments. To me, the comments show the motive behind your actions as you work. I see that the painter needs both technique as well the thinking that is guided by it.
