It is New Years Day and a good time to get back to painting and establishing your working pace for the coming year. I want you to take out two pieces of paper and quickly sketch out some simple shapes nothing too complicated. It should be a piece of subject matter you are very comfortable with so you can really paint these two exercises with a fast and loose approach. I put 15 minutes into each one. Time spent painting is not always the criteria but I want you to just express the scene in the simplest most direct method. Use expressive colors and bold brushwork try to work on wet/damp paper without the use of a hair dryer. I will be posting both of these as complete demonstrations but I wanted to give you something to think about today. HAPPY NEW YEAR. I will be posting lots of cool stuff this year so keep checking in.15 x 22 watercolor on rough paper “Impression of Springtime”
15 x 22 watercolor on arches cold pressed “Across the Valley”
What a great, upbeat way to start painting the new year! HNY to you, too!
