Do a Self Portrait

Drawing a self portrait puts you in the elite company with Van Gogh, Rembrandt, Jim Dine, and Chuck Close.  Your face is the image you are most familiar with and it is a model that requires no model fee.  Use a self portrait as a warm up drawing in the morning, something quick yet exploratory, an opportunity really work on your comfort with a drawing tool and learning a lot about contour line. Grab a copy of Kimon Nicolaïdes “ The Natural Way to Draw”  if you struggle with the concept of the contour line.  Spend about 30 minutes on each drawing try to get it right give it some emotion a mood some personality.  Put up a mirror on the wall take out a drawing tool and try to capture a quick yet expressive self portrait.

Variation:

Give one drawing some color wash.

Change your gender

Make it sinister, angelic, young, old

Have fun loosen up
